I made a similar image of this scene back in the winter. When I returned to shoot it this weekend there was a noticeable amount of plastic caught up in the shrubs and rocks along the brook. It's hard to see but there's green and black plastic in the brook next to the large dead tree, much the same as every brook and river in the metro area.
We need plastic for some things, but not as much as we currently use. However, we need to keep it out of waterways, and the wilderness. The conversation about banning plastic shopping bags has picked up in many municipalities around the province, with some, such as Nain, having adopted a ban for several years with success.
I hope municipal representatives in the metro area show such leadership.
