By now, everyone in the province, and many people across the country, are familiar with the sexism and harassment of fellow firefighters exposed by Brenda Seymour of Spaniard's Bay. There have been weird rallies in Spaniard's Bay calling to "support our men" and their sexist and harassing behaviour, but there's an overwhelming amount of support for Brenda seemingly everywhere else. The behaviour of the bros on the fire brigade, and town council, was sexist, disgusting, and indefensible.
SPAAT (Smash Patriarchy: An Action Team) held a rally in town over the weekend in solidarity with Brenda, and calling to end all forms of violence and harassment against women. There was a great turnout given the poor weather. The organizers lined up a diversity of speakers, placards, chants, and a wen-do self-defence demonstration. Here are a few photos from the rally.
