I took a few days to sift through hundreds of photos from Memorial Day. On July 1, 1916, over 700 young men from Newfoundland were sent over the top to meet German machine guns. In less than thirty minutes the battle of Beaumont Hamel was over. The following morning just 68 of the men answered the call.
The Memorial Day ceremony was typical of any ceremony of that type. However, I would have liked to see the kids in uniform in the front as a reminder of who was sent to fight with the allies, who was sent over the top that day.
