I was shooting early morning on Christmas Eve, wandering around, and came across these two men clearing snow off a homemade rink. I chatted with them for a while. They were really nice and obviously proud of the awesome rink they were maintaining. I want to head back there some evening, maybe this evening, to shoot when the lights are on over the rink. They have a great job done on it and they told me the neighbourhood kids spend a lot of time on the rink - some up to hours a day. I wished them happy holidays and continued on my way shooting.
I finished up about an hour later and made my way back to the car. I heard some laughter and the clang of sticks on ice. I looked toward the rink where some kids were passing pucks and taking turns blasting howitzers. I believe they were the kids of the one of the guys clearing snow in the image above.
We had a homemade rink when I was a kid - 1995 or 6 I think. It was pretty awesome.
