After dropping Melissa off for work Thursday morning I drove out to Middle Cove. More specifically I drove to the lookout above Middle Cove. A few months ago I was driving by there early in the morning and a gorgeous bald eagle rose from under the cliff in a thermal updraft. I was hoping to see some of that magic this morning.
I waited around for a bit, got back in the car and headed off to Outer Cove. I never drove 10 metres when I noticed a bald eagle perched on the cliff further out on the point.
It was in a staring contest with a raven.
I jumped out of the car and went down the trail. I continued to get closer, pausing to shoot, then I looked down at my camera to change autofocus modes. In less than the second it took me to do this the raven flew towards the eagle, which was easily twice its size, and the rivals were off.
I eagerly made my way right out to the point hoping to get closer to the birds, but the eagle was gone. The raven remained. Victorious perhaps?
