The guy on the other end of that warhead is David Howells. I was shooting birds at Quidi Vidi lake Wednesday evening when I noticed Dave so I took a few minutes to observe and shoot him doing his thing.
I think the lense he's using is a 300mm f/2.8, something so heavy most photogs wouldn't dare use it without a monopod but Dave has his technique dialed-in and it seems like he has no trouble with it.
I was snowboarding at Marble in March of 2012 and Dave took a photo of me on the hill. I got in touch with him a few months later offering to buy the photo and he sent it to me, no charge. I was super lucky, Dave has shot portraits of presidents, celebrities, and his vision is sought globally, to put it in perspective it's pretty cool he a) shot the image, b) was super rad and sent it to me.
Dave has a great style that you probably recognize - one that many try to emulate. He shot a large marketing campaign for Grenfell Campus a few years ago that I think might still be in use.
