"You find a wave and try to hold on for as long as you can / You made a mistake you'd like to erase and I understand"
This is why I wanted to do this project, to find bands I've never heard of before and hopelessly fall in love with them. For many of you (all 20 people that read this thing on a weekly basis) you've probably never heard of Alvvays. They are an indie-pop band that has been around since 2011, in the music mecca that is Toronto. However, none of the band are from Toronto, they all grew up on the east coast - PEI and Cape Breton respectively - with the lead singer, Mollie Rankin having The Rankin Family blood coursing through her veins. Antisocialites is their sophomore album that was released in 2017.
On my first listen of this album, I found it extremely enjoyable. It certainly fits the genre description of indie-pop as they albums seems to churn out enjoyable tune after tune. Songs like Lollipop (Ode to Jim) and In Undertow just felt like well written and produced songs that I often found stuck in my head at many points during the day. Other songs such as Dreams Tonite had courses that I found very melodic and soothing.
In the end I probably listened to this album a dozen times and never got bored of it. It felt like this music should belong on a reboot of the show "The O.C." or perhaps in a remake of the classic movie "Garden State". Either way, the music is good, and if you enjoy pretty chill indie-pop music, I suggest you check these guys out.
