It would have been a shame for this list not to include one of the great Canadian bands like Rush. While I knew who Rush were and was familiar with their hit songs, I never really sat down and listened to their album. So Moving Pictures is their eighth studio album and arguably their best. It has probably their biggest hit in Tom Sawyer and the likes of their purely instrumental masterpiece that is YYZ.
What initially struck me as funny with this album was that it only had 7 songs on it, but when looking more closely two songs make up over 16 minutes of music so it only made sense after that. On the first listen you could tell why this was arguably their best album. I have found a lot of the music I have listened to from generations past have sounded very dated, with the stuff from the 80's being dated in a negative way. While this did sound dated to me a little bit, it didn't matter because of how polished it sounded. It was very easy to tell this was not their first time in the studio and why some people consider this band of the the best of all time.
It's hard for me to explain a band to people when they are widely popular. But if you want to experience something different I would recommend the song YYZ. its a 5-minute instrumental that is truly a treat for the ears.
If you like rock music you probably already own this. If you want to expand your mind you've probably already tried Rush. Either way, this album is deserving of your time. I will listen again I am sure.
