This week is The Dead South. A bluegrass/folk band from Sask, and I band I never heard of until this project. Then I looked them up and much to my surprise they won a Juno for this album under the Traditional Roots Album of the year.
Have you ever listened to a band and thought "these guys sure sound like another band/a collection of different people". When I turned on The Dead South I immediately thought they were a cross between Mumford and Sons and Jesse Stewart (the guy who made that Donny Dumphy song semi popular). I like Jesse Stewart and I like Mumford and Sons so this was a good mix for me. I even had to look to make sure that Jesse wasn't the lead singer of this band.
Ok. The music. Its fun. A lot of fun. If you like banjos, folk, bluegrass, then you would like this album. I felt this didn't fit the mold of what I usually listen to, but I enjoyed it a lot. Top 5 album so far? Its in the conversation. Also, I loved the album cover art.
